Backup failed and files are lacking in one single folder

I made a backup of one single folder which contains several other folders which contains files. So I selected this big single folder containing many other folders and files to make a back up of it without any exception rule but when I restored the content of the backup at least half of the files contained in the folders contained in one single big folder lacked. I chatted with some Norton staff and replied that this problem is unknown from them and only kept saying that the Norton Backup can't do this, but I swear I only selected that one big folder containing many other folders each containing files without any exception rule and now lots of files are lacking, and there is no logic about which files were not kept, it just seems to have been made randomly. Lots of folders now contains half of their original files and I repeat I didn't touch these and only selected the whole mother folder to be backed up. The destination of the restore was my external disk which had plenty of room for the back up, so it's not a space problem from the destination.

What am I supposed to do?
