Norton 360 Product Update – 21.1.0.18 created huge inconveniences, even worse than the previous updates outrageous destruction of useful functions in identity safe..
Historically, the update before this one destroyed the only true security: physical security.
When you took away the ability to use a local identity safe it was no longer possible to keep your identity safe on a thumb drive and remove it when you left the room. No password -- no matter how many letters numbers special characters capital letters etc--. is as secure as having the data in your pocket. The golden rule of data security is physical security. If someone can't touch it, they can't steal it. Also if I want to access notes where I keep such things as bank pin numbers, they are not available unless you are on the internet. I can usually access the internet via ipad cellular except where there is no coverage, but why destroy something for no obvious reason. You should restore the option of using an identity safe database on one's local drive.
Back to this latest release:
It is annoyingly slower than previous versions.
This update omitted the ability to click on the toolbar in Explorer and fill in name address etc from an id card. That's a cruel omission.
This update omitted the button in the explorer bar to right click then click on settings that allowed you to go to edit notes etc. Sure do miss that.
I thought the ipad app ruined navigation to a login, but chalked it up to adapting to ipdad strictures. It was only mitigated by being able to scroll through the logins.
Then this update brought the same interface to the PC and there is not even a scroll capability-- well, it turns out is well hidden. The cutsy fancy frames reduced the number of logins displayed from about 10 previously to only 3 or four and flooded the screen with blank space filled with wallpaper colors. Previously,no matter how many sites I visited, my bank login was generally there in the list to just click on. Now I have to type bank name and then only 3 of the 4 bank logins show up and not the one I most often use. Sure, I can scroll, but look at the wasteful hand motions.
PREVIOUSLY I kept my hand on the mouse, clicked on the identity safe icon, was shown 10 recents, clicked on the bank login and was logged in. NO back and forth between keyboard and mouse.
NOW I have to click, then move to the keyboard to type some characters that I hope I remember was the name of the login-- not a trivial thing --- then back to the mouse to click on the choice or pull a scroll button.
PREVIOUSLY if I wanted a site not in the list of recents, I clicked on see all, clicked on the category/folder e.g. credit cards, stores, and then clicked on the login I needed. Again no need to go to the keyboard , just keep hand on mouse. And consider that the keyboard is more usable on PC than fat fingering the ipad mini keyboard.
NOW you have arrogantly destroyed information in my identity safewithout so much as asking: that is, the folders in which I categorized my logins are gone. Well after a while I see they are still around, just not usable for search. At least one login showed a price tag like label with “medical”, the folder I kept it in previously. I guess that is the price I'm paying-- I get to see it but not use it.
FINALLY – how bad did I feel after automatically renewing Norton 360 these many years? I refreained from switching to free virus control because I VALUED Identity safe. I didn't switch browsers to safer ones because you didn't support identity safe on them.
NOW you are giving identity safe away for free while I continue to pay for it.
So let's get to the BUGS
I have been logged out of identity safe sureptisiously several times since the upgrade and had to login again to continue. Once it was probably intentional. After I completed a complaint you spitefully logged me out and I had to login again.
I just went to access vault and it said SYSTEM RESTART NEEDED. Never had that in the previous version. Did you find more ways to make Identity safe less user friendly?
also got this erroneous errror on submission of this complaint-- there was no html in the body of my message composed in notepad as a hedge against having characters limited in submitting trouble reports.
" Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied."
