No scanning.

I bought a new laptop, running Windows 8, from Currys, and it works great! The only problem I seem to have is that it won't scan. the last Full System Scan it had was two days ago (02/04/2013), and the last quick scan was yesterday. But today, nothing. If I click to have it perform a full system scan, it will check for updates, and tune my PC, but leave the Full Sustem Scan "Not Completed". the quick scan won't even do anything when I click it. I becasme concerned, and so I went to check the security history, and that does nothing either. Like the links don't do anything.
I am rather concerned, and have never been any good with computers, so I'd love some help.
