Hello,
For several weeks, I've been having problems with my browser where, if I have multiple tabs open and then try to close one, the browser will hang and I have to close it (the whole browser, not just the one tab) via Task Manager. When this is happening, I can't even switch to another tab, although I can switch to another browser window if one happens to be open.
After disabling and/or uninstalling some of the usual suspects (Flash, Java, Adobe Reader), I finally settled on the Symantec Intrusion Prevention add-on. When this is disabled, I can open a multitude of tabs and then selectively close any of them -- or all of them at once if I wish -- with no problems. But if the Intrusion Prevention add-on is enabled, the problem resurfaces.
I'm on Norton 360, version 5.2.2.3. The Intrusion Prevention version is 9.8.1.0 (dated 3/30/2011).
I gather that Intrusion Prevention in the browser is a pretty important security feature, so if possible I'd like to find a solution that involves keeping it enabled. I'm also looking for a solution that does NOT involve changing browsers or N360 versions, as I have reasons (important to me) for keeping them. And, preferably, a solution that also does NOT involve uninstalling and reinstalling N360, as I've had to do that several times over the past few years and it's a major PITA to reconstruct all the settings and get the firewall to recognize all the PCs in my network all over again.
With those provisos, I'm open to suggestions. :smileyhappy:
