Norton 360 scanning and notification question

I ran a full system scan on my laptop and was watching the files it was scanning and it said it was scanning  "Infostealer.Snifula.B."  on my c: drive. I kept watching norton scan my hard drive and also saw "backdoor rustock b" and "rustock a".  Norton 360 did not recognize these items as threats but did quarantine other files.  My question is whether Snifula/rustock a/b are actually active on my computer? Would Norton 360 miss these threats?

In addition I ran the same scan on my desktop and the same process occurred.

thank you for your help

Download Insight: Permanently Accept a File

Hi,

Download Insight always prompts whether I want to run a specific file. According to File Insight, the file is reliable, has many users, is mature, and trusted.

Is there a way to "accept" the file permanently so that Download Insight doesn't prompt me each time? (Note: I don't want to disable Download Insight. I only want to affect this one file).

Thank you,

Error 8506 & 421 continues to occur even after uninstalling and reinstalling Norton 360.

This problem has been going on for a while on my wife's PC which is a Sony Vaio running WIn7 Home Edition. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the product several times as per https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v80281719_EndUserProfile_en_us, but within a week or so the problem comes back and Norton is rendered useless and provides no protection. On some occasions when I completely shut down the PC and start it up the error will go away.I use a Lenovo Thinkpad and have not experienced a similar problem.

This problem has been reported in this community for quite a while, but Norton seems unable to fix the problem, which appears to be a flaw in the software. I have been a Norton customer for years and I would hate to have to switch.

A permanent solutions would be appreciated.

Driver Manager states that it is a Norton Partner. Is it? what does that mean?

A message popped up on my screen indicating that I had several drivers out of date, so I clicked on the link to update them. I ended up at a screen that asked me to pay ~$29 for a 1 yr subscription.  The site had a logo that said they were a Noeton partner. I paid and downloaded the software but Driver Manager required that I get an Authorization key and gave an 877 phone number to call. When I called it, the person on the other end said that he would have to install it for me via something similar to Norton's Live Chat support where the person on the other end tales control of your system. I am usually EXTREMELY reticent to do something like this and asked if I could install it manually, but was told that it would be best if he did it in case the connection got lost.  Since they had advertized that they were a Norton Partner, I allowed him to do it.  The next thing I knew, I was sent to a site with another 'technician' telling me that many of my services were stopped, and that Norton 360 was not running properly because it beleived that it was running under what it beleived was XP SP3.  This is just plain false since I run Win 7 Ultimate and have never had Norton 360 indicate anything different.  Then the pitch.. they could fix all my problens for a one-time fee of $170!! What a scam! Just about everyting they said could be seen to be bogus to anyone who knows anything about Windows 7, but the shame of it is that an uneducated user might well have bitten on this scam,

So I ask again, what does being a Norton Partner mean, and does Symantec do any investigation of the business practices of who it partners with??

Needless to say, I ran Power Eraser after this whole episode.  Luckily I found no malware.

I'm running Norton One (N360 Premier Version 21.2.0.38). NVP is Incompatible with IE11 EPM.

Virus? Can't shut down or access computer

Windows 8.1 system with Norton 360. Can't shut off or access computer. My screen has 5 little dots going around clockwise in a circle next to the text 'Shutting down' for the past 10 hours. The computer is completely unresponsive. I tried powering down. The power button has a little white light on it when it is on. When I press the button, the screen clears and the power button light blinks. When I press the power button again, the 'Shutting down' screen comes back up.

My problems started a few days ago when I couldn't access the Mail App. I uninstalled it and when I tried reinstalling it, nothing would download from the Microsoft Store. Now the problem has progressed to freezing up my computer completely. It sounds like a virus has made it past my Norton 360 firewall.

What to do??

Norton Update Locks Host File

I had previously updated my Comcast/Norton 360 from 20.4.0.40 to a newer version, then found locked access to my host file, and the logins where no longer in folders I had spent so much time crafting. I uninstalled that version and went back to 20.4.0.40, so I could still access my host file, also turned off auto update to new version, which I noticed doesn't exists in new version either. I'd like to update to the newer version, but I need access to my host file, I use Hostman to update and control the host file, and seeing it get locked by Norton with no way to unlock is unacceptable. Does the newest update address this problem, or am I the only one that controls my host file? Also, has the login toolbar gone back to folders view, or will I still have to scroll thru all the logins to find what I need?

Norton 360 on wndows 8.1

Hello,i hope this is in the right section and is okay but something happened today that has promted me to sign up and post this.

i've bought a new gaming laptop and before it has been despatched i recieved a telephone call from the company offering me a load of services i don't need (which i turned down).

the part that is relevant was when trying to sell me anti virus, she was telling me that because it uses windows 8 that norton will cause serious slowdown (i hadn't told here that's what i already use and will install on this new laptop) she ended it by saying "do not install norton"

while i know she was just trying to sell me another anti-virus (i'm not that naive) she did plant a seed of doubt,i've been searching all day for information and it looks like there were issues in 2013 but the latest updates have sorted those problems.

all i'm after is some reassurance that there are no slowdown issues with Norton 360 and windows 8.1.i've been using Norton for about 6 years with little to no problems (that's why i haven't signed up before now) but this one being a gaming laptop i don't want it unnecessarily taking performance from the system.

to be honest i've been using vista for 6 years so the new system will probably look like lightning to me anyway :smileywink:

sorry for the first long post.

Not sure where to post this... question about malwarebytes, norton guy told me it's harmful

Well, I got some support via the site and had a few programs removed.

One of those was malwarebytes.

Now on another forum I'm a part of (quite a large community site that is pretty hard on security for it's moderators) I was advised to use malwarebytes as a second tool to ensure my computer was safe.

The guy in the support session like I said removed it and said it was harmful.

A little confused and just wanted some peace of mind from someone here that can clarrify what exactly is bad about that program? I doubt I was misled by the site I've been a part of for several years... but you never can tell.

I downloaded the N360 Update and while installing I got a blue screen of death:

Stop: 0x0...7e (FFFFFFFF800000003, FFFFF800032CFA38, FFFFF880031DA708, FFFFF880031D0F60

I've been having problems with the system hanging or crashing. It seems to be installed (on another system). Will the update solve the problem? Why did the system crash? Cause?

help with browser hijacker &/or virus (Lab Search Conduit.com)

Hi

I have looked through the Norton site and forums and have not had any luck finding an answer/solution, but I am really hoping someone will be able to help me resolve an issue that has popped up. I was on the phone trying to help my mom in law with some problems she was having with her computer and I suspect that her computer may have been hijacked by something called Lab Search Conduit.com It kept popping up while I was talking to her, but I told to her not to click anything except the x to close it, since I did not know what it was.  After the third time, I decided to look it up to see exactly what it was, I found some information with varying descriptions, like Browser Highjacker and virus.  We both have Norton 360, so at that point I told her to go into Norton and run a full system scan and when it was done turn off her computer and leave it off until I find out what to do.  I have never had this come up and am unsure as to what course of action we need to take.  She is not too computer savvy, but I should  be able to talk her through whatever needs to be done, if not she will have to wait until we go visit in a few weeks.

Any assistance and information with this would be greatly appreciated and good to know just in case.  Thank you for your time.

I am on W7 /64 and have two instances of n360 *36 although running in Windows 64

It is slowing my laptop A

On laptop B I am running W/Vista there there are two instance of N360.

Please note difference n360 *36 and N360

I have been told that laptop A is normal but not why laptop B runs smoothly and without slowing down.

How can I install N360 on my Laptop A. I have multiple license and do not wish to lose one by

using NRT and having to re-instal perhaps the same verion.
